Battleship

J.T. isn't the only pop star making a play in the movie buisiness Rhianna is geting in on the act too staring in Battleship alongside Liam Neeson.

The plot features a fleet of U.S. naval ships on exercise that come upon a unidentified object which turns out to be some kind of alien warship/weapon which is promptly reactivated and proceeds to attack them.
With impressive looking visuals and a seemingly original plot premise (makes a change from the usual aliens land in central park movies) this will be one to look out for in 2012.

In Time

This it the trailer for In Time a movie soon to be released by 20th Century Fox staring .......Justin Timberlake?!

Basically every one is allotted a certain amount of time to live displayed of a clock tattoo on their arm, buying things cost you time instead of money and you can earn more time to pay for things (not to mention keep yourself alive)by good old fashioned work. If your clock reaches zero bam your dead
so inevitably this leads to a world were some have all the time in the world whilst others haven't got enough time in the day. Enter Mr Timberlake who discovers the truth and goes on a Robin hood style quest to correct the situation and save his own skin at the same time.

Co-staring Cillian Murphy, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde release is slated for 28th October 2011

Iron Sky

Nazi's from outer space!

That is the theme of new movie still in production Iron sky.
This movie has a steam punk retro 1940's look about it and with good reason the plot is based on the premise that rather than admit defeat in 1945 a contingent of Nazi's blasted off from their base in the antarctic and colonised the dark side of the moon.
There they stayed waiting, amassing forces and biding their time until they were ready to return and reclaim the earth for the fatherland!

According to the offical website ironsky.net principle photography finished on february of this year with the post production expected to take about a year so expect this entertaining piece of retro style sci-fi about mid 2012.
Can't wait!

Terra nova

Here's a trailer for new series Terra nova due to air this autumn/fall on Fox in the U.S.
The year is 2149 and the earth has become so overpopulated that people are literally queuing up for a way off.
The solution the pilgrimage to Terra nova, not an escape to an alien planet but rather time travel 85 million years into the past to found a new colony of humans during the time of dinosaurs.
Cue the Jurassic park theme tune and the inevitable people and dino co-habitation issues resulting in one or more humans ending up on the wrong side of a Raptors digestive system (assuming there is a right side).
Roll trailer

The first few episodes are bound to be quite predictable but if the makers can steer clear of the dino movie cliché's  this series could well brake some original Sci-Fi ground and make a wecome change from your usual post global warming/apocalypse drama's.
Look out for this one when it makes it's way accross the pond in the not too distant future.

Eureka Cancelled!!

In recent development Entertainment weekly reports the fifth series  of A town called Eureka will be the last! After being cancelled there had been hopes of a six episode mini season to finish the series and round up all the ongoing plot lines but these hopes we dashed with the following statement from Syfy:

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.

Your cancelling whose show?!

I for one will be very sad to see an end to the highly entertaining and comedic adventures of Sheriff Carter and his fellow Eureaken's and with the cancellation of those final six episodes it looks like their will be may unanswered questions.

Will Allison ever admit her feelings for Carter?
Will Lupo ever get with alternate reality Zane?
Will Fargo ever get with anyone?
Will Carter ever understand any of that science stuff?

Looks like we'll never know!
Thanks a lot Syfy!

Star Blazers to goes live action!

David Ellison in charge of Skydance productions has announced his intentions to buy the rights for legendary 70's sci-fi Anime Space Battleship Yamato also known as Star Blazers in the U.S. with the intentions of turning it into a live action movie.
Sorry to say this Dave but your a little late a Japanese live action version has already been done and when started showing in Japanese cinema's last December, where it went straight to no.1 at the box office.

Will Ellison succeed in buying the rights and producing a Hollywood version?
In all honesty I wouldn't hold my breath, we are more likely to see an English dubbed/subtitled version of the Japanese movie released straight to DVD & Blueray. Which if the trailer is anything to go by may be no bad thing!

New clips from Battle: Los Angeles

The Sci-fi Guru has once again been trawling the web and his searches have yielded these two new clips for the soon to be released movie Battle: Los Angeles from the website aceshowbiz.com.
From what the Guru has seen Battle:LA looks to be the kind of movie you would expect to get if you crossed Cloverfield with Black Hawk Down(Both good movies in their own right). Which means this movie could become something pretty special.
So will Battle: LA live up to our expectations or be yet another interesting idea poorly executed like Battlefield Earth.
Battle: Los Angeles is out on general release 11th of march 2011 till then watch the clips and decide for yourself.

Outcasts given the axe

According to a report on the Guardians website the BBC Scifi drama Outcasts has been cut after yet another poor return on viewing figures.
I can't say i'm sorry to see it go, it was yet another example of poor quality script writing on behalf of the BBC.
Come on BBC it youst to be your props and special effects that let you down not the quality of your penmanship. I guess too long scripting episodes of Eastenders have eroded the abilitys of our script writing talent.
And that is the real tragedy here.

Firefly news

Yes you read the title right fresh news about the cult must see series Firefly.
According to our source Nathan Fillion star of both Firefly and Castle would be more than up for anything new to do with ressurecting the series going so far as to say he would purchase the rights if he had the money.
And others including script writers for the series have leant their support saying they would back fillion should he decide to follow through.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25509553-Sci-Fi-New-Firefly-news-Fillion-says-he-d-play-Mal-again

Meanwhile fans spured on by the news have launched an attempt on facebook to get Fillion the money he would need to buy the rights.

Will all this succeed in bringing back Firefly? Will the brave crew of the Serenity grace our screens or atleast our pc's again?
We can only hope. Cross your fingers folks.

Tron Legacy Looking good in 3D

The Guru has recently seen the long awaited sequel to the orignal 80's classic Tron the creativly title Tron Legacy (did you see what disney did there, clever).
Since the original Tron is an undenyable Sci-fi classic and set many new standards in special effects when it was released the guru was anxious to see if this new sequel could deliver.
It not only delivers but it sets the table and waits on you as well!
The plot picked up right where the original left off and is well written and fully engrossing through out.
The soundtrack is nothing short of awesome but then it should be having been provided by Daft Punk one of the Guru's favorite artists of all time.
And what you ask of the special effects and cgi, well as expected nay demanded by the fans the trademark light cycles and recogniser's make a return looking even more shiney and awesome than before.
The rest of the effects are equally impressive in 3D with scenes so realistic (for a movie set inside your computer) the Guru found himself feeling truly a part of the movie.
One point of particular note is the almost perfect recreation of jeff bridges as the younger 80's Flynn, the CG recreation is truly the best i've ever seen.
If you haven't seen this movie yet go seek it out.
If you haven't seen the original Tron where have you been hiding?
